Amendments to a previously backed scheme for a hardware/farm store have been backed by Pembrokeshire planners.
Back in 2023, Maenclochog Hardware was granted approval for the erection of a hardware/farm supply building with an associated yard at The Old Coalyard, Station Terrace, Maenclochog.
Members at that meeting of the council’s planning committee were told the long-established Maenclochog Hardware had recently changed hands, with a need for new premises.
At the July 2025 meeting of the planning committee, members were asked to approve amendments to the previously-granted scheme.
An officer report recommending approval said: “The application site comprises a vacant former coal yard in the village of Maenclochog. The site is located to the western end of the village, within the settlement boundary and covers an area of approximately 0.15 hectares.”
The applicants sought amendments to the building as proposed to have a total floorspace of 185sqm (a reduction in area of 79sqm) with 92sqm used for storage purposes, 79sqm used for retail purposes and the remaining 14sqm used for office space and toilet facilities and removal of a layby and footpath from site frontage adjacent to highway.
In relation to the amendments of conditions to the scheme granted in 2023, the report said: “The proposed development would have an acceptable visual impact and an acceptable impact on the character and appearance of the area.”
The officer recommendation of approval was moved by Cllr Brian Hall, seconded by Cllr Alistair Cameron, and was unanimously backed by committee members.
