Commenting on plans by the Welsh Assembly Government to merge Pembrokeshire Community Health Council into a super CHC covering the whole of West Wales, South Pembrokeshire AM Angela Burns said:

"This is a flawed plan as once again we are seeing the centralisation of powers.  The CHCs give us a chance to say what we are unhappy about within the health system."

Under the proposals, the new West Wales CHC take over from the Carmarthen, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire CHCs. The committee of the new super CHC will be made up of area associations - with one serving each county.

"This will add yet another layer to the system," added Mrs. Burns.

"It will will move the man in the street another step further away from the ear of the person at the top."
