Tenby Male Choir celebrated the start of their second half-century with their annual dinner and award presentations night as guests of their president, Wynne Evans BEM.
Guests were served a mouth-watering selection of food and drink by the presenter and singer and Celebrity Masterchef winner and his staff at his restaurant ‘The Welsh House by Wynne’ in Carmarthen on January 25.
A bumper set of long service awards have fallen due this year, including the very first 50 Years’ Service award, received by former Chairman Terry Evans. Jill Williams who has served as accompanist to the Choir for 25 years was also recognised.
President Wynne Evans also presented awards to Paul Rapi, the Choir’s current Musical Director, but also long standing Assistant MD.
Choristers receiving awards included - Duncan Hilling for 35 years; Paul Varallo for 25 years; and David McDermott with Sasha Clarkson who have both served for 20 years.
The President made a final surprise presentation to Chairman, Tony Key OBE, a cake for his 80th birthday, and led the Choir in singing him “Happy Birthday!”
The event closed with a sing-song, with Wynne and the Choir serenading Senior Chorister Duncan Hilling with ‘Myfanwy’ followed by Accompanist Jill Williams rousing everyone in song.
Tenby Male Choir’s first performance of 2026 will be at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, February 28 at 7.30pm when they will welcome Flint Male Voice Choir to the seaside town.
Admission is £10 on the door. Accompanied children under 16 free. Doors open from 6.30pm.
On March 26, The Male Choir will also be joining the ladies from Saundersfoot’s Côr y Môr at the Regency Hall for a concert that will take place from 6.30 to 8.30pm, in support of the Saundersfoot Rotary Club - who are celebrating 50 years of serving the community.
