A Canadian photography student living in Tenby has requested the help of locals to volunteer as subjects for her portraiture project entitled 'Who Do You Think You Are?' Meredith Garrett White from Toronto is currently working on an MA in photography at Swansea Institute, and while she is living in Tenby with her husband and daughter, she thought that the seaside resort would be the ideal place to set her project. "The size of the town and the personality of the people is very human; Tenby has a lot of heart, and it's an honour to be here," said Meredith. "The portraiture project I am working on requires the subject's opinion in the process of making the image, so I need people to find an object they think represents who they are. This object will be placed above the sitter's head and a photograph will be shot, much like the example seen here," she explained. The photography student is hopeful that volunteers will find her project fun and interesting to take part in, with a worthwhile result. "Photographs often reflect what the camera sees at a given moment, of what the photographer wishes to say," she added. "I'm hoping this process will allow subjects to say something about themselves and possibly create a discussion with those who look at the final pictures."
