It was the turn of the lady drivers from Pembroke Haven and District (PHD) Autograss Club to return home with the silverware when many of the club's drivers travelled to Stratford-upon-Avon recently to compete in the prestigious Midland Autograss Promotions (MAP) Championships.

In the ladies class 1 (1000cc Minis), 16-year-old Marie Mason from Narberth drove consistently well to take three second places in the qualifying heats and then went on to claim a fine third place in Sunday's final against some of the country's top lady drivers.

In the ladies class 9 (1300 - 2000cc specials), Yvette Jackson (formerly of Llanfallteg), now residing in the Evesham area, but, along with husband Simon, remaining a loyal member of the PHD club, again drove consistently well to pick up the second place trophy in her class final.

Seven members of the PHD club make the long journey to County Durham to compete in the National Autograss Championship Finals on the weekend of August 4 and 5.

They are: Class 1 - Norman Mason (Narberth) and reserve Darren Mason (Narberth); Class 3 - Tony Hughes (Penycwm); Class 7 - Anthony Jones (Pontyberym) and Dicky Lindsay (Tenby); Class 9 - Wayne Llewellyn (Johnston); Class 10 - Bentley Vaughan (Narberth).

They carry with them the best wishes of the club as they compete for the biggest prize in autograss racing.
