Local councillors have called for a permanent ‘park and ride’ facility to be introduced in Tenby, after a trial bus over the Whitsun period saw large usage, bringing people in and out of the resort.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the town clerk told members that on average, 55 passengers used the facility per day from the Salterns, over the Whitsun holiday.

“This shows that the town is getting busier at different times of the year, and it’s important that we look after the people that live here too, as the ‘park and ride’ facility also improves traffic management for the town, and provides suitable transport for both the elderly and young into Tenby,” said Clr. Mike Evans.

“It also helps with residential parking, as in the future we could see a zonal parking scheme coming in.

“Other towns and cities have a park and ride facility running at peak times, so if we want to show support for making it a permanent fixture we need to take it to Pembrokeshire County Council.”

Clr. Laurence Blackhall agreed that the park and ride had been fabulous for the town over the busy Whitsun period and said that it should be encouraged more.

“We know it is needed, and PCC probably know it as well,” remarked the Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown.

Councillors unanimously agreed to support a permanent ‘park and ride’ facility, rather than another trial next year.
