The members present at the meeting held on May 14, at the Alma Inn, were: Christine John (chairman), Ron Selby (secretary), Anthony Brown, Clr. Carolyn Fortune, Graham Rennie, Christine Gwyther, Luba Selby, Clr. Tony Wilcox and Peter England.

The meeting was also attended by Jo-Anne Jones, who is presently deputising for Emily Sheen (county council housing - customer liaison).

Apologies for absence were received from: Clr. Maureen Colgan (vice-chairman and treasurer) and Rev. Roger Hart.

Treasurer's report: The chairman read out a brief note from Clr. Maureen Colgan (treasurer) stating that there had been no transactions either into or out of the association's account during the past month; therefore, there remained a credit balance of £257.16.

St. Patrick's Community Hall appeal: Clr. Tony Wilcox said that the community hall committee were pleased to report that over £3,000 had been raised so far by the appeal.

Funds are urgently needed for repair work on the fabric of the hall and for the resurfacing of the approach and perimeter pathways. The committee has applied for a grant to cover the greater part of the costs, which includes repairs to the rendering of the walls to improve weatherproofing.

Tony went on to mention that RWE - N.POWER have donated some folding tables and chairs to the community hall, and that the committee were very pleased to receive them.

Pennar residents' long wait for access to their long term recreational area: More than a year has passed since the PCC planning inspector recommended that the plot of land at the western end of Military Road should be registered as a town or village green.

Since that time, the registration officer has sought specialist legal advice on the matter, and he has recently been able to register the land with the local authority.

Smoothing out the bumps in the road, and lighting up the way: Pembrokeshire County Council's highways department is having a busy time following the long, cold winter.

Treowen Road has developed several potholes that are in need of filling, and the road surface in Milton Terrace is breaking up quite badly, especially on the steep hill section.

Graham Rennie said he was pleased that the damaged lamppost outside number 149 Military Road had been replaced, and he looks forward to the day when it is wired up and operating.

Preparation for the bicentenary celebration; a thorough clean up operation is required: Luba Selby said that with the bicentenary of Pembroke Dock approaching, the town was in dire need of a thorough, and lasting clean-up! She went on to say that children should be taught from an early age to dispose of litter in the proper way, and the teaching should be done in the home and in the schools. Unfortunately, this was either not happening, or the lesson was being ignored.

The amount of litter along the pavement of Pembroke Road, and around Pembroke School and the sports fields bore testament to the fact that this elementary discipline was not being heeded.

The Tesco bus and coach stop, and the nearby car park, was too often a cause of great concern and embarrassment.

Clr. Wilcox agreed that the town was in need of a thorough clean-up, and asked the secretary to write a letter to the head teacher at Pembroke School about the litter problem.

Rerouting of the pathways around and through the South Pembrokeshire Golf Course: It has been suggested that the paths running around and through the golf course should be rerouted to avoid the distraction of golfers lining up their shots, and to make it safer for the strollers! In the past, there have been complaints of vandalism to marker flags and the greens, dog mess, and abusive language directed at people passing along the pathways.

Meeting gets a visit from County Hall: Jo-Anne Jones, who is presently deputising for Emily Sheen (county council housing - customer liaison), thanked the members for their support and for their invitation to attend one of their (lively) meetings.

She added that the grant towards the running expenditure of the CA was being processed, and they should receive it in the near future.
