PENDINE 80 (12 pts) HAVERFORDWEST CASTLE 75 (2)

Last Saturday, on a glorious, hot afternoon, Pendine at home faced Haverfordwest Castle (who, it was great to see, included two young teenagers in their team) in Division One, and a competitive match took place.

On rink two, Stewart King Thomas's four were up against B. Hall's quartet and at five ends Pendine were down 8-5, but by tea were ahead 17-8 and won 24-17.

Rink three saw Mal Evans's four against Dave Summers's lads. Up 13-5 at tea, Dave frustrated the Pendine rink by taking the jack away on a number of occasions to stop a count and a comeback, running out 25-12 winners.

Rink four had David King Thomas against Barry Absalom's four and at tea, due to an excellent game by lead Colin, Pendine were 12-6 up. Afterwards, a similar situation continued with good bowling from both sides and, although Barry picked up a four on the 21st end with his last bowl, he still lost 19-16.

On rink five, skip Malcolm Thomas faced R. Lewis's four, where, as well as the skips, the thirds, Geoff Hale and Tommy Nutt, kept altering the heads on many ends. At tea, Haverfordwest led 12-8, but Malcolm's rink then turned up the pressure and ran out 25-17 winners, making it a triumphant day for Pendine and sealing their second win in two weeks.
