A grand coffee morning to raise money for The Harriet Davis Trust is being held tomorrow (Saturday) to help fund a bid to stop a national company erecting a Tetra mast near to one of their holiday homes for disabled children and their families.
There will be a cake stall and good raffle prizes at the event, being held between 10 am and 12.30 pm at Penally Village Hall.
Guests of honour will be John and Kit Davis, who are leading the battle that the Harriet Davis Trust and local residents are having with Pembrokeshire Council Council and Airwave O2 to prevent a Tetra mast being erected on The Ridgeway close to The Wheelabout, the Trust's holiday house for families with disabled children.
A Local Public Inquiry is being held at the De Valence next Wednesday and Thursday, January 24 and 25, and funds raised at the coffee morning will be used to help to pay legal fees.
As reported in last week's issue, the county council is not going to oppose the appeal, leaving the Trust to fight on alone against a very powerful organisation with vast financial resources at their disposal. The evidence that Airwave O2 is presenting to the appeal, which runs to over 1,500 pages, has now been received. Such is the weight of evidence, that the trustees and their solicitor, Mr. Michael Charles, of Sinclairs Solicitors, Penarth, now estimate that the legal fees involved in fighting the case will amount to at least £12,000. The Trust operates on a very small margin and to find such an amount would place a huge burden on existing resources.
"Penally residents and friends of The Harriet Davis Trust wish John, Kit, their solicitor Michael Charles, and the parents giving evidence, every possible good wish and strength to face Airwave's fight," said campaign member, Mrs. Ann Dassen.
