Nine pairs enjoyed 27 hands of duplicate on Monday, two of these pairs back after several weeks of illness so welcome back to Joy, Gordon, Christine and Tommo (writes A.H.).

Unfortunately, lack of practice? kept them out of the running, with the honours going to Pam Evans and Lyn Lawson top with 59.03 per cent. Second with 53.47 were Susan Biggin with Carol Cavill and third with 52.78 were Mike Taylor and Jeff Thomas.

One doomed attempt of a slam was bid and several hands made enough tricks, but were not bid, no change there then!
