Junior riders from all over Pembrokeshire and beyond are getting ready to take part in the Annual British Heart Foundation (BHF) Pembrokeshire Junior Bike Ride on Monday, May 2. The day will see families gather for a fun day out and take part in a big outdoor picnic on the Bank Holiday. The ride will take place between 2 and 4 pm at the showground site at Withybush, Haverfordwest. The event is a ride and not a race and is for children under 14 with a separate area for cyclists under six years. The ride is free, but all participants must raise sponsor money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF), the leading charity fighting heart disease. Cyclists complete as many laps of just under a mile as they wish and can enter either as a team or as an individual. All riders will receive a medal with the highest fund-raisers receiving additional prizes. Free refreshments will be available. Event organiser, Julie George, said: "The aim is to have fun while raising money for the British Heart Foundation, the major charity fighting heart disease. "Every two minutes someone has a heart attack in this country and it kills 240,000 people every year - that's four in 10 deaths. The money raised in Pembrokeshire will help important ground-breaking research into the causes, prevention and treatment of heart disease. "The event will be a good day out and we would like to see families turn up on the Bank Holiday to watch the event and, if the weather is good, enjoy a picnic in the scenic surroundings." Riders can register in person at Mike's Bikes, Enterprise Cycles and Bierspool Cycles, by post, in person on the day, or on-line at bhf.org.uk Further details can be obtained from the British Heart Foundation Wales Office on 029 20382368.
