AN ILLUSTRATED talk on the Dinas Cross farmer’s son who fought at the Battle of the Little Bighorn takes place in Haverfordwest on Friday, March 6.

William James enlisted in the US Seventh Cavalry in 1872, having emigrated to the United States the previous year. On June 25, 1876, he was among 210 soldiers who were killed at what became known as Custer’s Last Stand.

Aberporth journalist and author Mike Lewis will explain how his discovery of five previously unknown letters which James sent home to Pembrokeshire from the US frontier enabled him to uncover the story, which then inspired his novel ‘If God Will Spare My Life’.

Hosted by the Pembrokeshire Historical Society, the talk will be held in the Pembrokeshire Archives building in Prendergast, Haverfordwest on Friday, March 6 at 2.30pm. All are welcome.
