Saundersfoot Sports Club (sponsored by LG Leisure and Get Stuffed Pizza) played away to the Balfour Club in Haverfordwest on Monday evening, in their latest league match, and were 3-2 winners.

The first frame saw Steve Cleevely play Anthony Griffiths. Playing only his second game for Saundersfoot (coming in at short notice), Steve started cautiously, but was doing well early on. However, Anthony is a good player and was biding his time it seems.

Steve refused to lie down and potted some terrific colours to be only a point behind with blue, pink and black left on the table. After that, a series of fouls saw the lead change hands a couple of times, before Anthony finally potted the crucial pink to leave Steve the loser.

The second frame saw Dave Wooles play Ray Hoare. Dave started brilliantly, opening up a good early lead, only for Ray to come back to close the gap. Dave then went up a gear to extend his lead again, before he had the worst kick ever whilst amongst the balls, to hand Ray a chance, which fortunately he didn't take.

Dave was now potting out of his skin (he's never played better) and with only blue, pink and black left, he needed just one ball to record a win against one of the best players in the league. He duly potted a great blue, to leave Ray requiring a snooker, which he didn't get.

The third frame saw Glyn Davies play Alan Griffiths. This proved a rather scrappy affair, with little to comment on, except that Glyn's opponent had the upper hand and ran out winner.

The fourth frame saw Darren Morgan play Peter Smiddy. Darren started well, opening up with a 22 break. He continued to pot well, but Peter is no slouch and potted a few good balls himself to close the gap.

As the frame got to the colours, it was Darren who was 12 points up, and he extended this to leave his opponent needing a snooker, which he didn't get, with Darren finishing off the frame with a 22 clearance.

The final frame saw captain Mark Cleevely play Paul Harries. Mark has not been playing well of late and he was determined to put this right, in what was the decider with the match all-square at 2-2.

As the frame got midway, Mark was 15 points up, and by the time they got to the colours he was 40 points to the good and it was game over - a great result, as the Balfour are second in the league.
