Tenby and County Club (sponsored by LG Leisure and Get Stuffed Pizza Co) played away to Hakin Social A in the quarter-finals of the Knockout Cup on Monday (aggregate scores five singles) and were winners by 277-221.

The first frame saw Steve Cook play Lee Frost. Steve started the slowest, but soon got into his stride, potting some good balls and opening up his account with a 21 break. Back came Lee to close the gap to one point and, with the game nip and tuck, neither player was prepared to give an inch. As the game got to the colours, it was Steve who had the upper hand, but again back came Lee to the push the Tenby player to the limit and at the end it was a draw, with scores level.

The second frame saw captain Glyn Davies play Barry Mathias. Glyn started the better, putting Barry under pressure from the off, and he carried on his recent good form by potting off the lampshades! Glyn never looked in trouble as he took the frame by 35 points.

The third frame saw Mark Cleevely take on Adrian Mathias. Mark started slowly, but soon got going, potting some good balls, but Adrian is no slouch and came back well. This was the game Tenby needed to extend their lead. However, Mark was struggling to get into the frame midway through and it was getting scrappy. Coming to the colours, it was anyone's game, but Mark then powered away to a fantastic finish to win by 34 and put he Tenby side 69 points up.

The fourth frame saw Kevin James play Paul Bailey. Kevin was out of the blocks quickest and soon opened up a small lead, but back came Paul to frustrate him. Again this game was nip and tuck all the way to the colours, when Kevin decided to go for it, potting some excellent balls to run out a 13-point winner.

Now 82 points to the good, the last frame saw this season's debutant, Darren Morgan, play Jason Hackett. Darren was in determined mood and would have to have a disaster (like Glyn did a few years ago, losing a 99-point lead) to lose this match. As the game got midway, it was Jason who was potting the better, and leaving Darren nothing, but with such a big lead, Tenby must surely prevail. Although Darren battled on, it was to no avail, losing by 26 points, but overall Tenby were victorious by 56.
