Tenby and County Club (sponsored by LG Leisure and Get Stuffed Pizza Co) played away to Hakin Social Club on Monday evening and were 4-1 winners.
The first frame saw league debutant Kevin James take on N. Watts. Kevin started the brighter, with some good pots, only to see his opponent come back with a few good pots of his own. With the game nip and tuck, it was still close when the frame got to the colours, only for Kevin to fall 16 points behind. He continued to battle on to the black ball, however, which he took for a famous win.
The second frame saw Peter Handicott take on J. Jarett. Peter (also playing his first game this season) started slowly, but soon got going with a couple of good shots, and he continued to pot good balls to go into a strong lead early on. Back came his opponent to give Peter something to think about, but as the frame progressed the Tenby player was still ahead, only for an unlucky in-off to see his opponent edge even closer to levelling the scores.
Coming to pink and black, Peter was seven behind and needed both balls to win, which he didn't get.
The third frame saw Dave Wooles play S. Roberts. Dave started well, potting some good balls, but he still can't shake off the uncharacteristic mistakes which he is making at the moment. However, Dave's mind was focused, having been very unlucky in previous weeks, and he was showing signs of what he is capable of.
Back came his opponent with a 20 break to pressure him again, but Dave was equal to the task and with three colours remaining was 10 points to the good; he then duly took blue and pink to win at last.
The fourth frame saw captain Glyn Davies take on A. Roberts. Glyn (on a hat-trick of victories) started strongly and was never in trouble, potting well and playing some good safety, to win it by the time it got to the colours.
The final frame saw Mark Cleevely take on D. Oughton. Mark let his opponent in early to get a quick break, but as the frame progressed, it was Mark who was looking the stronger, and with a couple of small breaks took command, before finally clinching it.
