Cresselly Cricket Club is gearing up for David Hemp's Benefit match to be held at Cresselly on Sunday, July 27, between a Pembrokeshire Select XI and a star-studded Glamorgan team. Originally it was planned that the Pembrokeshire Select Team would contain a representative from each side in the First Division of the Pembrokeshire League for the game which will be on the Twenty20 format with two innings per side. Understandably, Carew all-rounder Tim Hicks has withdrawn from the squad so that he can play for Carew in the Village Cup quarter-final on the same day at Carew against Marshfield. His place will be taken by another all-rounder, Phil Kirby, of Haverfordwest, who is also a hard-hitting left-handed batsman and a lively medium-paced bowler. Led by Cresselly skipper Lyn Richards, the Pembrokeshire squad is Lyn Richards (capt.), Simon Cole, Dan Cherry (Cresselly), Andrew Salter (St. Ishmaels), James Venables (Burton), James Buckle (Lawrenny), Paul Davies (Whitland), Paul Murray (Neyland), Phil Kirkby, Huw Scriven (wicket-keeper, Haverfordwest), Ben Hughes (Narberth) and Darren Brick (Llangwm). There will be one change from the Glamorgan team announced last week, as bowler Adam Shantry has been called up to replace Robert Croft, who has been asked to work for Sky Television over the weekend. Barring injuries, the Glamorgan team will be David Hemp, Adam Shantry, Gareth Rees, Alex Wharf, Richard Grant, Jamie Dalrymple, Dean Cosker, James Harris, Ben Wright, Michael O'Shea and Huw Waters. Spectators will be able to enjoy refreshments from the clubhouse throughout the day and there will be a barbeque providing hot food. No alcohol may be carried into the ground. Wickets will be pitched at 12 noon. Admission is £3 for adults, with children admitted free of charge.
