Pembrokeshire Primary Schools Under 11s football squad made the long journey to Cwmbran on Sunday to play Torfaen Schools in the Tom Yeoman Shield competition.
Pembrokeshire A 4 Torfaen A 1
The Pembs. boys played the ball around well on the astroturf and were a lot sharper and quicker to the ball than their opponents. Captain Cameron Thomas opened the scoring for Pembs. and this signalled a good spell of passing football. Zac Rowell combined well with Jonathan Walters and Ben Fawcett. Ollie Wheeler put in a lot of effort in closing down up front, with Jack Ackerman and Harry Rossiter commanding the Pembs. defence. Steven Varney played well in goal and Ben Fairbain and Jake Merry worked hard when they came on in the second half. Thomas scored again, with Fawcett adding another, before a misunderstanding allowed Torfaen to pull one back. Fairbain then scored a good goal to put the game out of reach.
Pembrokeshire A 2 Torfaen B 0
This game was much tighter, with the Torfaen boys passing the ball around well and limiting the space for the Pembs. boys. The first half ended 0-0, but the Pembs. players did not get desperate. Their patience paid off, with Fawcett scoring after some slick passing by Walters and Thomas, before Rowell scored a classy individual goal just before the final whistle.
Pembrokeshire B 7 Torfaen B 0
The Pembs. boys were on fire from the start and Jack Wilson scored within 10 seconds of kick-off. Ollie Gamble added the second soon after and Jake Houston added two more, making it 4-0 at half-time. They kept up the pressure in the second half, with Cieran Rees, Lewys Tee and Jack Scriven all getting onto the scoresheet. Miles Morgan had a good debut and Elliott Wherrett and Rhys Morgan gave the defence a solid look. Daffydd Eynon was very safe in goal and contributed to a superb squad performance.
Pembrokeshire B 8 Torfaen A 1
The Pembs. side continued where they had left off with goals going in ding dong. Rees scored twice before Torfaen replied. However, more good goals followed from Tee, Wilson, Wherrett (2) and Rees adding two more to bring his tally to four. This was a fantastic match to watch and an excellent example of team play and quality football.
