Brilliant sunshine was the order of the day when 24 members gathered at the Long Street car park in Newport on Sunday for the latest walk in the winter programme, a 13-mile walk in the Gwaun Valley area, led by Graham Morgan. Turning left out of the car park, the party made its way along the estuary footpath, before reaching the road and turning left for Berry Hill Farm, where inland tracks and footpaths eventually took the walkers to their lunch stop at Tregynon by way of Gamallt, Dolrannog Uchaf and Llanerch. Afterwards, the footpath to Sychbant was taken and after the stiff uphill climb above the car park, the walkers proceeded by way of the deforested area before turning right to walk along the slopes of Carn Ingli and then descending and making their way back to their cars in Newport, having enjoyed a splendid day's walking in a particular scenic part of North Pembrokeshire. Two highlights of the day were the sounds of woodpeckers in the Gwaun Valley and the sight of two red kites soaring above Sychbant.
