At the October Pembrokeshire Prospectors Society meeting, the finds of the month were as follows: coins pre-1649 (Henry III shortcross penny, 1216) - Kevin Higgs; coins 1649-onwards (George III sixpence, 1816) - Jim Whybourn; ancient artefacts (powder flask nozzle) - Steve Richards; modern finds (silver finger ring, Victorian) - Steve Richards; finds outside Pembs. (Henry VI penny) - John Lee; club search (lead toy) - Ted Owen.
Twenty members of the society travelled to Stow-on-the-Wold to attend a rally. The weather was inclement, the corn stubble was too tall to enable a good search, and only one coin was found between 200 detectorists. However, £4,000 was raised for charity.
The society held its own rally later at Wolfscastle. Twelve members had a good day out, there were not many finds of interest, but at least the weather was good, for a change, and the land was accessible.
As we all know, the farmers who kindly allow members access to their land have had the worst year for farming, many difficulties with waterlogged fields and bringing in the harvest. We wish to thank them for allowing members on the land at this time.
The club offers free recovery service to members of the public who lose metal objects, whether on the beach or on land. The society's 'phone number is available in the directory of local societies and museums or they can be contacted at http://www.pembsprospectors.co.uk">www.pembsprospectors.co.uk.
The society meets on the first Thursday of every month at Haverfordwest Cricket Club, 7.30 pm.
