The annual general meeting of the Pembrokeshire Access Group was held on June 5, when county councillor Carol Cavill was unanimously elected as chairman.

The normal monthly meeting followed the AGM where the group received a report from officers in the county council's licensing department on the accessibility of taxis by disabled people. There are, at present, five purpose-built vehicles operating in the county and are available at Haverfordwest, Milford Haven, Pembroke Dock, Saundersfoot and St. Davids. There are a further eight adapted vehicles with rear access lifts also operating in the county.

A new bus service is to set up on the Angle/Bosherston peninsular which will be wheelchair accessible and will carry bicycles. Toilets, with disabled facilities will shortly open in the car park at St. Dogmaels.

The Disability Rights Commission has taken up the matter of a guide dog being refused admission to the cinema in Haverfordwest.

Reg Owens with the assistance of council staff and friends achieved £4,000 in sponsorship for the 'Big Push'. Martin Goodall, representing Wales, obtained a 'first' in the visually impaired category in indoor bowls.

The next meeting of the group will be in County Hall on July 3 at 2 pm.
