Pembrokeshire’s Darwin Centre has scooped the ‘Children’s Charitable Organisation of the Year’ at the Prestige Wales Awards 2021/22.
The Corporate LiveWire Prestige Awards recognise small and medium-sized businesses that have proven to be the best in their market over the past 12 months.
During the past year, through various lockdowns the Darwin Centre and its partners have worked with almost 8,500 people and delivered 250 STEM related events to the young people of Pembrokeshire.
Manager of the Darwin Centre, Samantha Williams said: “It is an honour to have won this award and to have all of our hard work recognised.
“Our work with Pembrokeshire based pupils and community groups wouldn’t be possible without all of the support from our core sponsors and partners at Dragon LNG.”
Tom Avon, Project Manager from Corporate LiveWire said of the Darwin Centre: “We appreciate how vital it is for people to have access to science-related information and experiences and the fact you do everything you do for free was an important factor in the judge’s decision making.
“We can see the Darwin Centre works with experts and STEM professionals from the region and in particular can provide secondary school children with access to these people when they are making important decisions for further education and careers.
“We appreciate all schools work differently and we can see that the Centre can tailor its services around what they feel would work well for them and their pupils.
“Most importantly, we can see everyone has a fantastic time whilst learning about such an important subject, and we’re very pleased to recognise their hard work!”
