The latest results of the Pembrokeshire Velo time trial season are as follows.: July 4, Sageston to Tenby 10-mile: A night for kite- flying rather than cycling, but six hardy riders came and blew the cobwebs away. Also welcomed were two junior age cyclists from the Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club, who were seeking to sharpen their cycling/kite-flying skills. The wind couldn't hold back Pete Lloyd, who set an excellent time in the conditions. Pete Lloyd 25:08 (average speed 23.9mph); Simon Scott 29:22; Alex Matchett (Jnr) 30:14; Derek Pugh 32:07; Matt Grein 35:04; Luke Cornish (Jnr) 36:52. July 11, Neyland 10 mile: A better night for cycling saw a good turnout and some good times, including personal bests by four of the junior age cyclists. Also welcomed were guests from the recently formed Tenby Aces Cycling Club and Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club. Pete Lloyd continued his good form and took revenge over Oggy Owen after last month's closely fought tussle over the same course. There were also some interesting father and son duels, with Alex Matchett just pipping his dad Steve, and Matt Brown, with a course PB, starting to close in on his dad Nick. Pete Lloyd 23:55 (average speed 25.1mph); Oggy Owen– 24:01; Nick Brown 24:36; Patrick Martin 24: 46; Josh Fiddy (Jnr) 25:51; Matt Brown (Jnr) 25:58; Jason Gay 26:24; Simon Scott 26:46; Dickon Morris (Jnr) 27:50; Gareth Rees 28:07; Alex Matchett (Jnr) 28:14; Steve Matchett 28:33; Derek Pugh 29: 31; Rory Walters (Jnr) 31:05. In other news, Michael George took part in a criterium race at Pembrey on June 26. Unfortunately, he had an argument with the tarmac and came off second best. We are happy to report that the wounds were just superficial and he will be back in the saddle soon. Andrew Milward travelled to Kent for the 120-mile British Cyclosportive on July 1. The course followed the route of the second stage of the Tour de France. Andrew completed it in an excellent time of seven hours 15 minutes. Nick Brown travelled to Neath on July 5 for the annual Port Talbot Wheelers Presidents Road Race. Despite the appalling weather conditions, the race was completed without incident, due mainly to the excellent organisation and co-ordination of the marshalls, lead and following cars and motorcycle outriders. The full results of the race were not available at the time of writing and, although he could hardly see out of his steamed up and wet glasses, Nick doesn't think he won! Forthcoming events are: Sageston - Redberth 10- mile time trial on July 18; Sageston -Pembroke Dock 15-mile time trial on July 25. Meet at Carew Castle car park at 6.45 pm for a 7 pm start. Event entry fee is £2 for seniors and £1 for juniors. The club welcomes anyone on any roadworthy bike - the only stipulation is that approved helmets must be worn during club events and the minimum age for road events is 13 (parental consent is required for under 18s). The first event can be ridden as a come and try it event, after which membership to the club will be required for insurance purposes.
