A Yellow warning for snow and ice across Pembrokeshire is valid until midnight tonight and a yellow warning for ice has been issued for tomorrow (November 21) until 12noon.

Pembrokeshire County Council has given thanks to its highways crews who have worked continuously since 10am yesterday morning, throughout the night and all day today in challenging conditions with constant snowfall and mechanical issues.

A spokesperson for the Local Authority said: “We have seen over 10 to 12 inches of snow in places. Thank you to local contractors, farmers and wider Council services who have assisted the highways and transport teams over the period.

“Tonight, more sleet and snowfall across the county are possible, becoming increasing lighter overnight. Temperatures will fall widely.

“Road surface temperatures are forecast to be close to or below zero across the network and drop as low as -4°C in the South of the County bringing the risk of ice.

“There is a high risk of icy stretches where we see further showers and where the snow thaws and re-freezes this evening and overnight and into Friday morning after a widespread moderate frost.

“We are therefore carrying out precautionary salting of the County’s primary routes this afternoon and evening and will continue to patrol these roads overnight.

“Secondary routes will also be treated towards dawn. Teams have been redeployed to treat pavements in major town centres tomorrow morning.Road users are advised not to travel unless essential and to take care especially when travelling on untreated roads and pavements which will be hazardous.

“Please reduce your speed, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and allow extra time for your journey.”
