The contribution of Wales’s Young Farmers’ Clubs to rural youth life was recognised at a special event in the Senedd on Wednesday, June 25, marking the movement’s achievement of the Bronze Quality Mark for Youth Work - when Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire MS Samuel Kurtz [a former YFC member and Chair of Pembrokeshire YFC] who sponsored the event - brought together club members, volunteers, youth work representatives and politicians to celebrate the national award, which recognises excellence in youth work provision.

Speaking at the event, Mr Kurtz praised the role the YFC continues to play in rural Wales.

“I know first-hand what a powerful and positive force the Young Farmers’ movement is. It’s more than just competitions and events, it offers young people real opportunities to lead, learn, and grow in confidence. Achieving the Bronze Quality Mark is a tremendous recognition of the YFC’s dedication to delivering safe, inclusive and high-quality youth work. It’s a credit to the staff, volunteers and, most importantly, the members themselves,” he said.

The Bronze Quality Mark, awarded nationally, reflects the YFC’s commitment to high standards and lasting impact in its work with young people, particularly in rural communities. The award follows a rigorous assessment process and highlights the organisation’s professionalism, inclusivity and care.

YFC Wales was also commended for its strong bilingual ethos and its ongoing support for the Welsh language. As one of the few bilingual youth movements rooted in rural areas, the YFC plays a vital role in helping to keep Welsh alive and thriving among younger generations.

The Young Farmers’ Clubs of Wales continues to be one of the largest and most active rural youth movements in the country with over 6,000 member and 138 clubs across Wales, offering skills development, volunteering opportunities, and community leadership to thousands of members.
