The Celtic Pro Tour, the developmental golf tour which has grown from the Dragon Tour, kicks-off its third season at Tenby next week. The Pembrokeshire OpenTM is a 36-hole event and takes place next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 1 and 2, over Wales' oldest course. "We are delighted to be hosting the first Celtic Pro Tour Event of the season and I'm sure that all the players will find the course a good but fair test of links golf at its very best," said David Hancock, secretary of the host club. Llewellyn Matthews, the former Southerndown greenkeeper, has entered the event, as have Scottish brothers Jack and Paul Doherty and the inaugural Dragon Tour Order of Merit winner in 2006, Alex Smith. "Although we have a limited field, the quality is extremely high and we are expecting some excellent golf next week," said Rhydian Thomas, tour director. Other entries include the 2007 Order of Merit winner, David Price, former Wales amateur internationals Cennydd Mills (Vale-hotel.com) and Ryan Thomas (Aberdare), Welsh Young PGA Pro double champion Adam Constable (Cardiff), Matthew Dearden (Vale-hotel.com), Adam Lee (St. Mellons), Matthew Griffiths (Oakdale), Alun Evans (Newport Links), Chris Cousins (Aberdare). The Celtic Pro Tour comprises three satellite tours - the expanded Dragon Tour which involves 11 tournaments in Wales, and the Thistle and Shamrock Tours in Scotland and Ireland, respectively, with four events staged between them.
