A Pembrokeshire-based mental health organisation which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, has opened the doors to its new premises in Tenby.

Get the Boys A Lift (GTBAL) - a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) - was established by a group of friends back in 2016, to provide free and easily accessible mental health support for people across the community.

GTBAL has run a clothing and coffee store on Haverfordwest’s Bridge Street over the past few years, where you can chat to counsellors and make new mates, with the service available by popping into the store or contacting the CIC through its website.

Now, GTBAL opened its new premises on Tenby’s Upper Frog Street, ahead of the Easter holidays. They are located in the building the Paul Sartori Foundation charity previously occupied.

Ahead of the opening, a special piece of sand art was created on North Beach by The Sandy Buoys’ to mark the occasion.

GTBAL shared on social media: “We have been working hard on creating a space which invites, entices, welcomes and comforts you all.

“This one feels special, not just because we’ve opened another space, but because of how we’ve done it. Every single member of our team has played a part. Ideas, effort, care, decisions, this has been a proper collective, and that means everything to us.

“To our community, thank you will never quite cover it. The support you show us, day in day out, is what allows this to exist. You’re not just customers, you’re the reason we’re able to keep pushing our mission forward and support more people who need it.

“To our baristas, you are the heartbeat of this. The smiles, the conversations, the moments you give to people, that’s what makes this more than just a coffee shop. You’ve created something special, and it’s allowed us to take a step back and focus on growing GTBAL in a way that reaches even further.

“And to the new faces joining us in Tenby, welcome to the family. And something we don’t say enough, the people behind the scenes. The ones who don’t always get seen. The long hours, the problem solving, the constant graft to keep everything moving. This doesn’t happen without that work.

“From the outside, it might look easy going. And in many ways, we’re proud that it feels that way. But behind it is a lot of hard work, a lot of care, and a lot of belief in what we’re building. Thank you for being part of it.”

GTBAL offers offers a mixture of in-person and online counselling services for anyone over the age of 17; with all free and accessible.

It’s aims are as follows:

  • To provide a welcoming and safe environment
  • To break the stigma of mental health
  • To be sustainable in many aspects of the business
  • To provide a quality service through coffee, counselling and outreach

Money raised through the sale of coffee and clothing helps to fund GTBAL’s counselling services.
