A Pembrokeshire man will be taking on one of the greatest physical and emotional challenges of his life this year — climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, to raise vital funds for the Nasio Trust - a charity that transforms the lives of children in Kenya who are born into poverty or with HIV.

Scott Brockway, a native of Penally, who now resides in Kilgetty, after returning to live in Pembrokeshire said that he decided to carry out this climb on June 15 just to simply give something back.

“This isn’t just about reaching the summit. It’s about raising vital funds for the Nasio Trust, a charity that transforms the lives of children in Kenya who are born into poverty or with HIV,” he explained.

“When I came across this challenge I knew it was the perfect opportunity to combine both: pushing my own limits while making a difference for people who need it most.

“These children face unimaginable challenges from the moment they’re born — limited access to healthcare, education, and basic necessities.

“The Nasio Trust provides them with hope, dignity, and a future. Through community-based support, education, and healthcare, they empower children to break the cycle of poverty.

“I've always been one for helping others where I can and also love to push the boundaries so to me this made sense to kill two birds with one stone.

“I will be on the mountain for 8/9 days and then carrying out three days volunteering in a local village after the climb to see what the monies raised go towards.

“During this time I'll help medical staff and also help build a house which believe it or not only takes a day to do over there!”

Scott has been training hard for this journey and to prepare for Kilimanjaro, he’ll also be climbing the Three Peaks and several other mountains across Wales, to help build strength, endurance, and resilience every step of the way.

As part of this journey, he’ll also be spending three days volunteering in Kenya, working directly with the communities the Nasio Trust supports.

“I’ll witness first hand the impact your donations can make — and I’ll carry those stories with me every step up the mountain,” he said.

Scott will then be taking on one of the summits of Mount Everest in April 2027, at Everest Base Camp and then Island Peak Summit which is one of the peaks around the main Everest peak.

“At this time I am doing this for myself and not for charity but if the fundraising goes well for the Kilimanjaro challenge then I may try to raise funds for a local charity for the Everest challenge,” he continued.

“I'm really hoping to raise a minimum of 10k as I feel this will go a long way to make a difference, but who knows the more the better!”
