A Narberth man will be taking on a series of challenges to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance Service, who saved his life after he had taken on the gruelling Carten100 - Cardiff to Tenby fundraising cycle ride.
In May 2024, the Wales Air Ambulance Service came to the rescue of Andrew Thomas when he collapsed at home.
“Their incredible crew provided life-saving treatment, and I'm now on a mission to give back!“ explained Andrew.
Andrew’s journey began after a life-changing experience during the Carten100 in May 2024, when he collapsed and was fortunate enough to receive immediate assistance from the incredible team at Dafen.
“Following that incident, I faced multiple collapses and was admitted to the stroke ward in Carmarthen due to concerns of a suspected stroke,” continued Andrew.
“Thankfully, it turned out not to be a stroke but rather a potential blood clot. Today, I am grateful to be fighting fit with an internal loop recorder monitoring my heart around the clock.
“As I train hard to regain my fitness, I am also committed to raising vital funds for this amazing charity that serves our Welsh communities.
“The Wales Air Ambulance Charity provides advanced life-saving emergency care for everyone in Wales, 24 hours a day, 365-days a year.
“They are a ‘mobile emergency department’ that relies entirely on donations to keep their helicopters in the air and rapid response vehicles on the road.”
Andrew said that he’s proud to be tackling three half marathons including - Llanelli, Newport and Cardiff, as well as the Long Course Weekend, Carten100, Kilgetty BikeIt100, and other events this year to raise vital funds, with his target goal £2,500.
“Every donation will help provide equipment, training, and resources for the crew,” added Andrew.
