Pembrokeshire County Council has welcomed its new Chairman and Vice Chairman.

The new Chairman of PCC is Cllr Maureen Bowen, who was previously the Authority’s Vice-Chairman. She was installed at the Annual Meeting of Council on Friday, May 9.

Cllr Bowen is Labour member for the Pembroke Dock Bush ward, having been appointed in 2022.

Cllr Bowen also represents the ward on Pembroke Dock Town Council. She takes over the Chairman’s role from Hundleton member Cllr Steve Alderman.

Cllr Bowen previously lived in Tenby where she ran a small business while bringing up her two sons who attended Ysgol Greenhill.

Once her children left home Cllr Bowen moved to the West Midlands where she began her political career as a Labour Borough Councillor on Stafford Borough Council, where she served for 16 years. During this time Cllr Bowen was an active member of trade union USDAW and elected to the executive council, attending in that role trade delegations at home and abroad, before returning to Pembrokeshire.

Cllr Bowen was nominated by Cllr Paul Miller and seconded by Cllr Joshua Beynon.

Upon taking the chains Cllr Bowen said: “I am greatly honoured to be elected Chair of Pembrokeshire County Council to represent this wonderful county, I hope that my experience of being an elected member will stand me in good stead to represent the County with dignity and pride.”

At the same meeting Cllr Delme Harries was elected the new Vice Chairman of Council.

At the annual meeting of full council on the same date, Leader Cllr Jon Harvey announced new Cabinet members, with Cllr Alistair Cameron taking on the role of Cabinet Member for Corporate Finance and Efficiencies, and Cllr Marc Tierney taking on a new role of Cabinet Member for Young People, Communities and the Wellbeing of Future Generations.
