The Pembroke website (http://www.pembroketownguide.co.uk">www.pembroketownguide.co.uk) is getting more hits than ever before, with figures rising from 9,004 in 2007 to 17,354 in just a year.
An evaluation report recorded this massive rise for Pembroke Town Council's website during 2008 with 'Latest News' being the most frequently visited page. This record increase has largely been put down to the continual development of the site.
The town clerk, Hugh Colley, is determined to build on the success and looking at introducing new pages during 2009.
He said: "I hope to include more information about our community, the history of the town hall, the Pembroke murals project and to provide details about previous Mayors.
"The website is proving a hit with genealogists from all over the UK and overseas who have discovered that their ancestors had a link with the town."
Clr. Keith Nicholas commented at a recent town council meeting: "This is fabulous news, the increase in web visits is largely due to the efforts made by the clerk and Mr. Gareth Williams (webmaster) in keeping the site interesting and current. The website is something council members should be proud of as it is an excellent way of promoting the town and communicating with the public."
