Pembroke U10s, who looked really smart in their TRANT sponsored kit, travelled to Carmarthen Quins on Sunday to play two hard games of rugby. Alongside Carmarthen, Furnace were also present. First up was Carmarthen Quins.
From the kick-off, Pembroke were under a lot of pressure from a strong Carmarthen team. However, Pembroke's defence stood strong and some great defensive tackles from James Davies, Lewys Boswell and Dan Urack prevented a number of try attempts. As a result of this continued defence, Pembroke's U10s were able to keep the scoreline to a 5-0 deficit at half-time.
After the restart, Pembroke started strongly and played some great rugby, with some good handling seeing Zac Jones race in to the corner to make it 5-5.
Pembroke continued to apply pressure which resulted in a try from Tom Cabot, making the score 10-5.
Carmarthen continued to apply the pressure and scored a second try, making the scores 10-10.
Despite some excellent attacking rugby from Pembroke, the final score remained at a draw, 10-10, a fair result for a great game!
The Carmarthen coach named Jack Jones as man-of-the-match for his off-loading of the ball and strong running.
Pembroke were keen to continue where they left off against Carmarthen, when they met Furnace. Pembroke were dominant from the start and quickly scored a try by Archie Hillier-Wood. With great defensive work from the whole of the Pembroke team, Furnace were forced to make errors creating penalties that Pembroke used to their advantage.
With some strong runs from Aaron Griffiths, Jacob Wright and Jack Jones, to name but a few, a Furnace fault gave Pembroke a penalty five yards out which saw Tom Cabot crash over to make it 10-0.
Furnace came out after half-time with fire in their belly, keen to rectify the mistakes from the first half.
A momentary lapse of concentration from Pembroke saw Furnace turn the ball over at a ruck and they quickly scored a try, bringing them to within a score of Pembroke.
With the score at 10-5, Pembroke upped their game and again some good running by the forwards and good handling by the backs saw Travis Mathias run half the length of the field to score the final try in the corner.
The final score was Pembroke 15 Furnace 5.
The Furnace coach awarded Jack Jones with his well-deserved second man-of-the-match of the day. Well done to all the team for their continued efforts and skill.
A big thank you to all parents, grandparents and coaches for their continued support and chauffeuring of the children to all of the games! It's much appreciated!
