Rob, the current Mayor’s chaplain, voiced his confident belief whilst issuing an open invitation to the special celebration service planned for Pembroke Town Hall on the afternoon of Sunday, June 12.
“As most people know, June 12 is Her Majesty’s official birthday,” Rob explained, “and in company with many, many other Christian groups throughout the land we will be gathering together to give thanks for her remarkable life of service, and the blessing she has been throughout her incredibly long reign.”
Rob continued: “We want to take time to thank God for her as a person and pray for the nations that make up this United Kingdom.
“Put simply, it will give us a chance to reflect on The Servant Queen and the King she serves.
“In fact, this is the title of a fantastic little book which has been published to mark this special occasion. Somewhat unusually, it contains a personal foreword by Her Majesty, and I would urge everyone who can to purchase a copy. It is amazingly cheap and beautifully illustrated. Best of all though, it uses the Queen’s own words to focus on ‘the central role of her trust in Jesus Christ in shaping her life and work.”
He added: “I am hugely grateful to my good friend Lyn Edwards who represents the work of HOPE in Pembroke. She has been of immense help in planning this special celebration and rightly so. HOPE is partly responsible for the production and publication of the book, as well as the order of service we will use on the day. I am sure it will advance HOPE’s vision which is to see us working together for the common good.”
Responses to date have been hugely encouraging and both Rob and Lyn hope the Town Hall will be filled to capacity when the Mayor, Clr. Dennis Evans, opens the service with an official welcome at 3 pm on the 12th.
