Now in its fifth successful year, Pembroke Festival is on course to deliver an exciting, colourful and vibrant range of events, making 2007 the best Pembroke Festival experience to date. The committee have been hard at work planning the programme which they are confident will have something for everyone. At the heart of the festival, which takes place over the weekend of August 31 - September 3, will be a host of events which focus on the environment and raise awareness of environmental issues. A new feature for 2007 is a performance of a Dr. Seuss classic, The Lorax. Children will have the opportunity to take part in a series of workshops prior to the performance on Sunday, September 2. The Anita Adams Academy for the Arts are running The Lorax workshops which will give the young people a chance to perform a lively, colourful piece of musical theatre whilst opening the issues of how they can work to take care of the earth. There will be a butterfly parade on Sunday, September 2, displaying the colourful creations made in summer holiday workshops with local craft group Sand Palace Arts. Why not come and look for the real thing at a wildlife session in Pembroke's Holyland Wood on Saturday, September 1? In recognition of one of the more surprising universal hits of the dance world, Pembroke Festival presents a Bollywood Dance Spectacular at Pembroke Town Hall on Saturday, September 1. From closer to home there will be a demonstration of traditional Irish Dance, which has also seen a huge rise in popularity over recent years. Music for the festival ranges from live bands performing at Commotion on The Commons, to the Mezin Quartet, and the powerful tones of Wonderbrass, as well as the fourth Annual Welsh Celtic Fiddle Competition and annual Battle of the Bands Competition. Other events not to be missed include a comedy night, an open-air service with local churches on The Commons, Twmpath and barbecue, Farmers Market, food and craft market, treasure hunt, and a flotilla of boats provided by the Maritime Heritage Society will be on Castle Pond. This year you are also being asked to get active by either taking part in a Steps2Health walk or a bike ride to Lamphey Palace, or both.
