Residents and visitors to Pembroke Dock are being encouraged to do their bit for the environment by picking up litter on the go.

The message comes after the Town Council revealed the county’s first #2minute Street Clean Board recently.

The boards work on a similar premise to the successful #2minute Beach Clean Boards located on many Pembrokeshire beaches.

It means anyone can pick up a litter picker and small plastic bag while out and about in the town and pick up as much or as little as they want before placing the contents inside a recycling or litter bin and placing the litter picker and bag back for reuse.

They are responsible for placing the board in and out everyday and ensuring bags are replaced and pickers are on hand to collect any litter.

Pembrokeshire County Council is now encouraging other individuals, businesses or communities to follow suit and follow the town council’s lead.

“We are excited to be the first County in Wales to provide these street cleaning boards.

“They’ve proved extremely popular on our beaches and I’ve no doubt they will prove popular in our towns and villages too,” said Cabinet member for the Environment and Welsh Language Councillor Cris Tomos.

“They are a great way to promote environmental issues and connect with the community.

“Therefore if you would like to host one in your community, please get in touch, we have a limited number we can provide free of charge to communities.”

The street clean boards have been funded as part of a community project using income from toilet charging across the county.

“If you’ve got a spare moment and fancy doing your bit then help yourself to a litter picker, bag and get going!” said county councillor Joshua Beynon.
