Rain wrecked most matches in the Nicholas Insurance Pembroke County Crickets League, for the first time this season and of the nine matches started, only one survived to its conclusion.

Carew have taken over the leadership of Division One after reaching 95-3 at Home to Haverfordwest.

After Nick Scourfield was dismissed without scoring, his opening partner Ian Sefton went on to score 26 and later skipper Robert Hicks (26no) and another left hander Gareth Lewis (22no) were starting to build a substantial partnership before play was called off.

Cresselly travelled to St Ishmaels and spent an unsuccessful afternoon in the field whilst play lasted as Tish scored 83 for no wicket until the game was abandoned with Peter Bradshaw scoring a fine 51no with seven fours with the help of Paul Palmer (21no).

There was plenty of action at Saundersfoot for a brief period as Saundersfoot found batting rather hazardous at 58-4 with Simon Wood (17no) the only batsman to make any impression against the all round strength of the Neyland bowling attack.

Whitland made a start in their away match at Lawrenny in Division One. Initially it was not the rain which was the problem, but the mist which enveloped the ground overlooking the Cleddau estuary.

When play got underway, Whitland scored 36-2 before the match was abandoned. Edward John (12) and David Lee (10no) were the only batsmen in double figures.

In Division Three Lamphey were bowled out for 128. After an early order collapse all rounder Hywel Gibbs scored 47 supported at the end of the Lamphey innings with an aggressive 20no from Barry Dilworth,

For the visitors Jonathan Rogers (3-29) and Sean Powell (3-40 were the main wicket takers backed up by Anton John and Dan Williams with two wickets apiece. Pembroke got to 11 without loss before the heavens opened.

Pembroke Dock Seconds are setting the pace in Division Six and bowled out Stackpole for 168. Rupert Davies (42no) held the Stackpole innings together and Lewis Wilkes scored 37.

For the Dock teams John Hay (4-41) and Luke Murray (3-17) were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply the visitors reach 8 for no wicket before it became impossible to continue.

The one game to escape the net was at Llechryd in Division Six, where the visitors Camrose and Spittal Seconds were bowled out for 109 after Rhys Beard had taken 4-15, supported by his father Kevin Beard (3-5).

Andrew Fenham with 28 and Gelly James (26) were the main run scorers for the visitors.

In reply, Llechryd Seconds fell just six runs short after being dismissed for 103. In a heroic last wicket partnership for the depleted Llechryd team veteran Llechryd batsmen David Spencer (6no) and Richard Wyre (15no) batted for 27 overs, before Spencer was dismissed with just under three overs left. The experienced pair have a combined age of 151!
