The Pembroke and Pembroke Dock LVA Quiz League got underway with the first fixtures on Sunday, with the quiz co-ordinator setting the questions. These produced a surprisingly big range of scores with last year's league runners-up, the Station B, producing the night's top score at Cosh Brewery to overwhelm the home side with 91 points.
Just one point off this was the Alma A who ran away with their game against the Charlton B, scoring 90 points in the process.
The closest contest of the round was at the First & Last where the visitors were the Naval Club and the home side got off to a great start winning by just four points.
Meanwhile, out in the country at the St Govan's Inn, one of the league's newcomers, the St. Govan's B team, lost the home derby to their A team, who next week take on the other newcomers from the Golf Club.
Back in the Dock, at the Station Inn, last year's league winners, the Station A, were so slow out of the blocks. It seemed the Alma B were going to take the points home with them as they stormed into an early lead in round one's In the News questions. But after increasing this lead in round two, the champions slowly shunted them back to just a three-point deficit going into round six and they took control to steam away to what appears an easy win by 12 points, but this score certainly flattered them.
The week's results were as follows: St. Govan's B 61 St. Govan's A 78; Alma A 90 Charlton B 52; Charlton A 85 Oak 0; First & Last 82 Naval Club 78; Station A 83 Alma B 71 and Cosh Brewery 70 Station B 91.
