This week's question setters were the First and Last, and a dire set of questions they were, with comments ranging from very tricky to obscure, leading to a most unenjoyable quiz ever comment on one card, but as I said in last week's report, question setting to suit everyone is very difficult and possibly the hardest part of being a member of the quiz league (the spare team each week sets the questions).
The closest game of the night was at the Naval Club where the lead swung to and fro between the home team and the Charlton A, before the visitors won by one point on the very last question.
In another close encounter, the Alma B entertained the Oak and struggled home by a six-point margin, while the Alma A side travelled to the Charlton B, picked all the right numbers, and came away with a resounding victory and the week's highest score.
Meanwhile, the Station Inn teams are opening up a gap at the top, with the B team travelling to play Cosh Brewery and returning home with a seven-point win. The Station A welcomed the St. Govan's Inn side and, like the Alma A, picked favourable questions, while the visitors picked all the 'stinkers' and, though they valiantly went for six-pointers in round six, could not put a decent score on the card.
The results for the last week before the turnaround were as follows: Alma B 57 Oak 51; Charlton B 23 Alma A 70; Naval Club 53 Charlton A 54; Station A 60 St. Govan's Inn 23 and Cosh Brewery 42 Station B 49.
Can anyone stop the Station train? The league leaders Station A have 27 points, Station B 21, followed by the Alma B and Charlton B on 18, with Cosh Brewery and the Alma A on 16, but remember the Alma B were in this leading position last year and got pegged back, so it is all to play for.
