After last week's hiccups, both Station teams were grateful to this week's question setters St. Govan's for a round of questions which fell in their favour.
Leaders Station A took on the Oak, winners of their last three games, at home, and steamed into an early lead which the visitors never looked like losing and, despite even scoring in the picture round, the visitors fell away to a disastrous loss.
Things looked to be going the same way for the Station B at the Naval Club when they, too, were quick out of the sidings and were well in command after round two, but, although the home team doggedly fought back over the next four rounds ,the visitors hung on for a comfortable win.
The Charlton B, still in with a faint chance of the silverware, journeyed to play the Alma B, also still in the hunt, and here round three was to prove decisive, although a near miss (syllables) in round six on the last question finally decided the result, a five-point win for the Charlton.
The Alma A travelled to Cosh, only to find the Brewery team back to their best form and returned home pointless after their heroics at the Station last week.
The final match took the Charlton A to the First and Last and they returned home comfortable winners.
These results see the two Station teams pulling further away from the chasing pack and disaster would have to strike both teams for the top two places to fall from their grasp, with the A team three points ahead of the B, who themselves are nine points in front of the Alma B, Oak and Charlton B with just four games to go.
The weeks results were: Naval Club 68 Station B 78; Cosh Brewery 85 Alma A 65; Station A 92 Oak 45; Charlton A 83 First and Last 42; and Alma B 75 Charlton B 80.
