Last year, in common with many other organisations, the AGM took place by zoom but it will be back to normal this year; an occasion for the Society to finally come together after the long period of restrictions.
Following the AGM, Chairman Linda Asman will give a talk on the William Marshal statue project with a report on its progress. The exciting news is that a date has been set for the statue’s installation and unveiling ceremony – Saturday April 2. Now that is something to really look forward to!
Doors will open at 10 am for coffee prior to the start of proceedings at 10.30 am. Following the talk, the coffee morning will resume and the Museum will open up for the remainder of the morning, closing at 12.30 pm.
Last Saturday, February 19, the Society held an opening event for Pembroke Museum, closed since the first Covid lockdown.
Said Linda Asman: “Although a stormy day, we were really pleased that so many people came. It was like getting back to normal, meeting friends and acquaintances not seen for so long. The Museum has undergone many changes since last opening and we were pleased with the public response and positive comments.
“As well as the museum, the Town Hall has much to interest the visitor with the lovely murals portraying the history of Pembroke, painted by George and Jeanne Lewis, and the Council Chamber itself.
“For added interest, we invited other heritage groups to join us and set up displays in the George Lewis Hall – the Penfro Modellers, the Sunderland Trust, Cosheston Local History Society, Chapel Bay Fort, Carew Control Tower and the West Wales Maritime Heritage Society.
“The accompanying coffee morning proved popular which, along with a raffle, enabled us to raise some much-needed funds. Thank you to all involved and to all who supported the event. It was a really enjoyable morning.”
Pembroke Museum is now open weekday mornings 10 am – 12.30 pm and this will be extended to 3 pm after Easter. Anyone interested in volunteering, please contact [email protected].
