PCSO Kelly Mackay has been helping children learn about the benefits of recycling. Orielton Primary School held a 'recyclathon' which was a three-day project within the school about using recycled materials to enhance the play ground area of the school. Activities included making a toytem pole - a totem pole made completely out of recycled toys which were donated to the school. The children also made an outside game for the playground connect four, which was made out of recycled materials and the counters were old roller blade wheels. PCSO Mackay said: "The children have also made sculptures out of all sorts of recycled materials. They have made insects and animals out of old material and weaved them into the fence which surrounds the school. "The recyclathon was great fun and it was very interesting to see what projects the children were working on to incorporate all of the recycled material. The children were very imaginative and creative and I thoroughly enjoyed helping them. "By taking part in events like this we are also getting the children used to engaging with us in a positive environment."
