Pasties and pies were the order of the day yesterday (Thursday) in Penally as a new food chain venture was launched which has promised to fly the flag for Pembrokeshire farm produce.
New company, The Pembrokeshire Pasty and Pie Co., unveiled a five-year plan to take Pembrokeshire farm produce to High Streets across England and Wales at the launch which took place at Penally Abbey Hotel.
The first outlet is opening in Tenby on St. George's Street on St. David's Day (March 1), followed by a flagship store in Cardiff in the summer and ensuing roll-out across England.
The directors, Tenby businessman, Oliver Booth, and London businessman, Dominic Spencer-Churchill, have been working with the support of Welsh producers for six months to develop what they believe is a new concept in fast food.
All the pastries and fillings are guaranteed to be made, grown, reared and sourced directly from Pembrokeshire Farms or seas and baked freshly on the premises.
The brand aims to fly the Pembrokeshire flag, resurrect the once famous Pembrokeshire Pasty recipe, and take the best of Pembrokeshire to the English!
The Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, was on hand to sample some of the company's tasty delights, which include titles such as the Tenby Treat, Friendly Dragon, The Caldey Island and the Traditional Pembrokeshire Pasty, which consists of Welsh lamb, red currant jelly, currants and mint.
"The pasties and pies are delicious and I'm absolutely thrilled to see a brand new business opening up in Tenby," said Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Lane.
"It's also refreshing to see a local business person start up this new venture in the current economic climate and I wish Oliver and Dominic all the best with the new company," she added.
