Sir,
Re: 'Parking Pantomime' (December 17 issue).
Mr. Fryer's claim that the Pembrokeshire County Council are applying for wheel-clamping powers is incorrect. The council is not applying for these powers and has no plans to do so.
Traffic and parking arrangements always feature very highly in PACT (Police and Community Together) meetings, and in general correspondence from communities.
In fact, County Councillor Michael Williams, one of the Tenby representatives on the county council, has been a prime mover in promoting Civil Parking Enforcement (CPE) in Pembrokeshire and has raised the issue on many occasions in the council chamber.
There has been very strong support in the county for the council taking on CPE powers, so that traffic orders can be better regulated.
Tenby Town Council has been supportive of the process, and we understand they are looking forward to the council taking on CPE powers in order to address on-street parking problems in Tenby.
Clr. Jamie Adams,
Cabinet member for highways and planning.
