The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has enthusiastically signed up to the newly established Coastal and Maritime Network for the county. The network provides a focus for groups and organisations working in the coastal and marine environment and follows on a successful Objective 1 initiative. At a meeting of the National Park Authority on Wednesday, the authority endorsed a report introduced by their lead member in this area of work, Mr. Edward Holdaway. Mr. Holdaway is also closely involved with the Pembrokeshire Coastal Forum, one of the main organisations in the new network. Also under the network's umbrella is the Pembrokeshire Coastal Partnership of bodies, which have an executive responsibility, and a small facilitation team. "It's an exciting development for all involved in coastal and maritime conservation," said Mr. Holdaway. "The Network results from a European funded coastal zone management initiative which has also been financially supported by the Park Authority. "We have a vision and strategic objectives which, in the spirit of co-operation which has been built up locally over many years, we will work towards. Our vision is for a thriving economy based on the assets of the coastal zone, with vibrant coastal communities and safe, clean coastal waters in an environment which is maintained and enhanced to the highest standards and which the public are able to gain access to at all times. "We look forward to working with the whole community in Pembrokeshire to achieve this vision."
