Where there’s pain there’s gain… that’s the painful prospect for Pembroke Dock Heritage Centre Volunteer John Mitchell as he prepared for a fundraising body waxing on Saturday, May 13.
This coincides with a special milestone for John - his 70th birthday - and he will be raising funds for the Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, which runs the Heritage Centre.
John will be baring the flesh and taking the pain at the Heritage Centre, with the waxing beginning around 10.30 am. He has already raised a good amount for the charity and welcomes further sponsorship to ease the anticipated pain.
This is part of a fun day of events at the centre, including children’s arts and crafts, a bric-a-brac stall and there will be home-made cakes on sale too.
The centre, in the Royal Dockyard Chapel, is open between 10 am and 4 pm. For visitors, there is an opportunity to try out the newly-launched replica Sunderland cockpit and for younger age groups to learn more about the famous Sunderland by tackling the new 14-foot wingspan interactive model.
• Pembroke Dock Sunderland Trust, a registered charity (1120476), is undertaking a big fundraising drive to continue its work preserving the community’s very significant military and social heritage.
