A packed audience attended the school hall at St. Oswald's VA School last Wednesday evening to listen to a delightful musical programme by extremely talented local school children aged between 10 and 11, and organised by the Rotary Club of Saundersfoot Youth activities officer, Mr. Charles Hopkinson. The evening was chaired by past president Mr. Peter Williams. Judges were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rapi, of Greenhill School, and prizes were awarded by president Mr. Maurice Caine. The musicians were Rachel Hensman (Clarinet), Max Copley (Tenor and Alto Saxophone), Hannah Gray (Viola), Joshua Hunt (Trumpet), Angharad Thomas (Bassoon) and Chloe Dobbs (Clarinet). A variety of musical interpretation was heard from jazz swing and classical themes, making the judges task extremely difficult to select a winner. A decision was eventually made and Chloe Dobbs (playing Mozart's Adagio) was awarded first prize, with Hannah Gray (playing Tamborine and Landscape Rumba) was awarded second prize. All competitors received a prize and the whole audience warmed to the expertly way the youngsters coped with the competition environment. The Rotary Club of Saundersfoot wishes to thank the headmistress, staff and catering of St. Oswald's School, the accompanists for the soloists and also the judges Mr. and Mrs. Paul Rapi.
