Tenby Youth took on Cardigan on Saturday, one of the stronger sides in the league. In a close game, the Seasiders won by eight points to five. Once again the pack made an excellent contribution. The photograph shows newcomer Adam Ball about to make a two-handed catch in the lineout, supported by Marvin Thomas and Lourence Britts, while Geoff, Grant and Sam stand by. Nick Rowe made a welcome return and showed how versatile a player he is. He took the hooker position, while Nick Drewett had an excellent run-out at centre. Tenby had Cardigan under pressure for much of the first half, moving the ball with all players involved. Tenby had their chances and it took a desperate tackle to prevent Adam Ball scoring, Cardigan knocking him in to touch almost on the line. A penalty by Steve Handicott was the difference between the two sides at half-time. Some changes were made to the Tenby side that would have the wind advantage in the second half. Steve made some excellent kicks to gain position, but it was when the ball was moved out wide that Tenby looked dangerous. Captain Geoff Martin threw a dummy in midfield and made a break up the middle, but failed to get the pass away. From the breakdown, through good hands and quick passing, Gareth Merriman went over for the first try of the match. The conversion attempt was just wide. Tenby kept the pressure on. The rolling maul worked well and Steve frustrated the Cardigan side with long and accurate kicking. Cardigan fought back and showed what a good side they are. The backs moved the ball wide in a flowing movement from one end of the pitch to the other and scored a try in the corner. The conversion failed with only minutes left to play. This Saturday the Youth are home to Crymych with a 3 pm kick-off. Saturday's squad: Aled Griffiths, Johnathon Lewis, Nick Drewett, Ben Field-Thomas, Steve Handicott, Mathew Davies, Rhys Thomas, Sam Smith, Adam Ball, Grant Rogers, Lourence Britts, Alex Jenkins, Marvin Thomas, Nick Rowe, Geoff Martin, Dan Young, Nick Griffiths and Gareth Merriman.
