Sir,

It was with mixed emotions that I read the article 'Artist impression of Paxton Court revealed' in last week's Observer whereby an artist's impression revealed as to how the new building is intended to look.

Whilst it would appear that the facade of the building is sympathetic in style and in keeping with the grandeur of the Royal Gatehouse Hotel that formerly occupied the site, it was hugely disappointing to observe that the picture depicted a pavement and supported balcony on the northern side of White Lion Street.

This would suggest that the line of the old pavement has been maintained and that someone somewhere has missed a huge trick in once and for all addressing the problem of the notorious local bottleneck caused by the narrowing of White Lion Street towards the seaward end of the street.

There has been ample opportunity for this to be addressed by the appropriate authority and it would appear that this has been completely overlooked or conveniently forgotten about during the planning approval stage.

I would be more than happy to hear from the relevant planning body responsible for controlling this aspect of the development to tell me that I've got it wrong, however, I suspect that I haven't and that Tenby will be blighted, by this completely unnecessary restriction for ever and a day.

T. A. Griffiths,

Tenby
