A further meeting to address concerns of local traders who opposed an outdoor street market in the centre of Tenby is to be held this month.
Issues surrounding the future of Tenby's Outdoor Market set up in Tudor Square were discussed recently at a meeting of Tenby Town Council, with Mr. Chris Osborne, the chairman of the organisation behind the market, Tenby Chamber of Trade and Tourism, laying out plans for a revamp, stating that in future it would be more focused on sales of local crafts, arts and produce, with the aim to give it more of an artisan feel.
Mr. Osborne explained that, in challenging town centre retailing conditions that had seen numerous shop units closing, the market was set up to attract more people to Tenby and for them to stay longer.
Calls had been made for the market, which had been operating last year on Wednesdays throughout the summer, and beyond, to cease trading.
The call had been backed by a 50-signature petition to the town council, which raised concerns that the market was having an adverse effect on the takings of businesses in Tenby and causing disruption to the town centre.
Those who raised concerns will now have the chance to discuss any issues further at a meeting to be held at the De Valence on Tuesday, April 14, at 11 am, members of the town council were informed at their meeting on Tuesday night by the town clerk.
It was also noted that all those who had signed the petition were to be personally invited to the meeting by the Chamber of Trade.
