It was two terms in a row for Clr. Trevor Hallett on Friday, as the long-standing Tenby councillor was installed as the town's first citizen for the fourth time, becoming the resort's 623rd Mayor.

Clr. Hallett was officially sworn in to don the scarlet robes of office at the Mayor-making ceremony held in the town's De Valence Pavilion, and said that he was "proud and privileged" to be Mayor again, before thanking everyone for their support during his previous year.

"It's been a busy year, with lots of events that have put Tenby on the map, and I thank everyone for the good things the town has provided, and the support of my family, friends and the people of the town," he commented.

"I'd also like to thank the hard effort and work of my team of councillors and also those that put in lots of hard work in the background," added Clr. Hallett, who named Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas as Deputy Mayor, his granddaughter Miss Emily Henton as his Mayoress and Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane as Deputy Mayoress.

In formally proposing Clr. Hallett to continue as Mayor, Clr. Lawrence Blackhall said that it was with "pride and pleasure" that he nominated "our Trev" to be Mayor again.

"He's a great ambassador for the town, and while he's the public face of Tenby, he does an awful lot of work behind the scenes too.

"Clr. Hallett is a friend to everyone, community and visitors alike," added Clr. Blackhall.

Speaking on Tenby Town Council's leadership partnership for the second year running, Deputy Mayoress Clr. Mrs. Lane said that not many councils could boast a Mayor and Deputy with 50 years experience between them.

"Clr. Hallett has an extensive knowledge of all things Tenby and is a mine of information.

"He tries to attend every function invited to and works tirelessly for the community," she remarked.

Mr. John Morgan was appointed Sergeant at Arms and Mr. Robin Scanlon Sergeant at Mace, while Rev. Andrew Davies was reappointed as Mayor's chaplain, although Bishop Dewi Bridges stood in on the night, in Rev. Davies's absence.

The ceremony was followed by a civic reception in the main hall, where the Mayor was joined by his party and guests.

Mr. Douglas Fraser proposed the toast to the Mayor and the town of Tenby, saying that Clr. Hallett gave so much to the town and was up there with the "great and the good of Tenby", before Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter toasted the guests, and Mr. Harry Gardiner completed the evening's speeches by responding on behalf of the guests.
