Narberth managed to do what Wales couldn't on the weekend - score two drop goals at the end of the game!
The Otters had the better of play throughout, but lacked the finishing touch. This allowed Tondu to stay within touching distance in the game, with the seven-point margin not truly reflecting the domination Narberth held for long periods.
The Narberth front row put in a splendid display, with the same amount of dedication as they had shown in the last fixture against Pontypool.
The Otters took the lead very early on with a penalty from Simon Daniel, but Tondu came back at them from the re-start.
Indeed, they got their noses in front when left wing Gavin Samuels collected the ball from a well-placed chip forward and crossed for an unconverted try.
Narberth restored their advantage after 10 minutes when centre Elgan Vittle broke through the Tondu defence after receiving a long pass from Simon Daniel, who subsequently missed the conversion.
The Otters were showing real class and creativity up front, but all too often the final vital pass went astray, with the result that they were not turning pressure into the points they deserved.
Winger Andrew Jones did finally break the Tondu defence once more, when after good handling and progressive play on the left flank, he collected the ball and outpaced the defence before crossing.
Outside-half Daniel hit the post with the conversion attempt, but was on target with a penalty six minutes before half-time to open up a 16-5 gap, only for his opposite number Mark Jones to again reduce the deficit with a penalty just before the break.
Tondu again struck immediately from the restart, with fullback Lee Byrne taking advantage of some defensive errors to score a try, converted by Mark Jones, who then took his side ahead with a huge penalty.
Narberth were in the same vein of play in the second half as they were in the first, creating plenty, but not finishing.
They eventually regained a slim one point lead in the 70th minute when Simon Daniel banged over his second penalty of the afternoon and then came two precisely placed drop goals from the fly-half to give Narberth the win they deserved and keep the home fans happy.
Narberth are home to Glamorgan Wanderers tomorrow (Saturday) in a re-arranged league fixture. The match has an early 11.15 am kick-off to avoid a clash with the France v Wales international in Paris.
